PARASITE CHANGES
Mental:
Phase one
- An urge to drink as much water as possible. Not doing so won't leave them extra thirsty, but they will feel more normal if they do.
- An insatiable appetite for hoarding. If they already are collecting something, they will now resort to stealing if needed. The bigger the pile, the better. The wetter the pile, the better.
- Friendly towards other merpeople, as well as nagas, shades and werebears.
- Avoids arachnes, goblins, kelpies and vampires as much as possible.
Phase two
- A desire to sing to their prey to lure them to their deaths. They may even flourish this by preying on the human's desires. Drowning them after this will feel much more enjoyable (after all, the humans were sort of enjoying it too, right?)
- Merpeople will become charming, flirting with humans and other monsters alike. Humans will find them near irresistible (especially when they sing).
- Friendship towards other merpeople, as well as nagas, shades and werebears.
- Loathes arachnes, goblins, kelpies, vampires, and faeries (NEW), and will avoid them as much as possible.
Phase three:
-Distaste for solitude. Merpeople want to stay in the company of others, as being alone will create within them an intense, debilitating feeling of loneliness. Though they would prefer to be around those they already like, strangers or enemies will do in a pinch; some Merpeople may be driven to take company "home" with them to their underwater dwellings, drowning them in the process. The presence of corpses will mitigate this sense of loneliness, but not forever.
-Emphasis of their aquatic nature. Merpeople will wish to remind all those around them that they are a Mer- as much as they can. Dressing in clothing made from seashells and sea life, braiding kelp and coral in their hair, turning conversations back to how things work underwater, etc; a Merperson will feel compelled to let others know what they're missing by being only land-dwellers.
-Merpeople will be drawn towards playing the "devil's advocate" for others, feeling the urge to instill them with doubts as strongly and as often as possible. Some may do this in subtle ways, such as telling friends they have done something that they haven't, or that they didn't say something that they did, in order to provoke inconvenience. Others will attempt to fracture the relationships of those around them by feeding their existing doubts ("Of course she doesn't like you," or "He isn't going to appreciate what you're planning," etc). The more distress or ruin a Merperson can cause in this way, the better they feel.
-A more volatile emotional state. Merpeople will feel all their feelings much more intensely, often seeming as though they are overreacting. Mild disappointments become tragedies, minor slights become major offenses, and so on. Often their heightened emotions will come with tears, but the Merperson will find that the more they reveal or act upon their emotions in this way, the more "true to themselves" they feel.
-Foggy memory. Being so tied to the element of erosion, the memory of a Merperson will seem more malleable than that of their land-dwelling companions. The past will seem better than the present, though the reasons as to why may be misinterpreted or misremembered; the loss of unpleasant memories may make a Merperson more resentful of current events, while degradation of the positive could cause them to have a brighter outlook on the present.
-Adoration towards other merpeople, as well as nagas, shades, werebears, and manticores (NEW).
-Despises arachnes, goblins, kelpies, vampires, faeries, and werewolves (NEW), and will avoid them as much as possible. May even attack them without just cause.
Physical:
Phase one:
- Webbing forms in between the arm and side of the ribcage.
- Larger fins on their legs.
- Sharper teeth in mouth.
- Longer claws.
- Thinner body.
Phase two:
- Scales on their body begin to turn prismatic in sunlight.
- Taller/longer body (up to one foot in new growth).
- While underwater, their hands will become extremely hard and durable, allowing them to use them at rapid speeds to produce a sonic punch. Note that this will only work underwater.
- The bioluminescent spots go into overdrive, or begin to manifest if the merperson has none. They begin to glow at night, and may make it hard for them to hide properly in darkness. With practice, they can tone this down.
- Feet, legs, and/or tails become more muscular, making swimming and running even easier.
Phase three
-The skin or scales of the Merperson's torso will begin to turn translucent, making their internal skeleton and organs visible. Their organs and bones may also become translucent, but they will still be visible. However, their skin or scales will become more durable, so their vitals will be harder to strike.
-Scales become as hard as chainmail.
-Tendrils begin to ooze out of their arms at the shoulders, quickly growing into fully-fledged jellyfish tentacles or oral arms.
-Merpeople will be able to throw their voices incredible distances, making it seem as though they're speaking from somewhere incredibly far away; they will also be able to bend their voice to mimic that of other people or creatures, allowing them to imitate the loved ones or enemies of others with ease.
-The Merperson's hair will begin to move on its own, even on land, giving it the illusion of being pulled by underwater currents at all times.
-When a Merperson cries, their tears will harden into pearls. The size and color are up to player discretion.
-Ability to become liquid. Merpeople will be able to melt their bodies into sea foam or other, liquid-like materials, allowing them to pass beneath barriers or to escape to the nearest body of water. If a Merperson in liquid form comes into contact with another liquid, they will be forced back into a solid body.
